Wellington AFC rescued a point thanks to a second injury-time goal in eight days from skipper Sam Towler.

Towler's 30-yard strike against Ivybridge Town on Wednesday, March 19, followed his injury-time free kick winner against Oldland Abbotonians the previous week.

His heroics came after Wellington's 6-1 loss to Portishead Town on Saturday, March 15.

The team was without captain Kieran Bailey, who joined rivals Shepton Mallet.

Towler took on the captain's armband and was part of a new central defence partnership with Tom Stone and Jacob Shore.

The Tangerines had a difficult start, conceding after nine minutes when Connor Bush scored past keeper Jake Viney.

Viney was playing his first full game since recovering from a long injury.

Wellington rallied after the early setback, with Miles Quick coming close to levelling the score.

Manager Richard Cherry made early second-half changes, introducing new signing Saul Vanes and Douglas Camilo.

Camilo was involved in a key moment when he was fouled by Sam Hillson, resulting in a straight red card.

Wellington dominated possession against the ten men but struggled to create clear-cut chances.

It seemed as if they would leave Ivybridge empty-handed until Towler's late equaliser.

Towler's goal ensured Wellington's improved performance was rewarded with a point.

The Wellington squad consisted of Jake Viney, Harry Scott, Tom Stone, Jacob Shore, Nathan Byrne, Miles Quick, Sam Towler, Sam Pashen, Josh Lukins, Josh Baker, Jake Quick.

Douglas Camilo, Saul Vanes, Phil Mendonca, Alex Parsons were used as substitutes, while Rob Hall was not used.
